A taça mais desejada da América do Sul está nas mãos do Palmeiras pois, ao vencer o Flamengo, neste sábado, Montevidéu, no Uruguai, conquistou o título da Libertadores de maneira heroica. Mas não foi só isso. O alviverde também garantiu passagem para mais duas competições na próxima temporada: o Mundial de Clubes, que será deve ser disputado em fevereiro nos Emirados Árabes, e a Recopa Sul-Americana, em 2022.
O Mundial de 2021 deve ser o último no atual formato, adotado pela Fifa em 2005. A entidade planeja fazer um reformulação no torneio. A ideia era fazer já em 2021 um Mundial com 24 participantes, na China, mas o plano teve que ser adiado por causa da pandemia da Covid-19.
Anteriormente, o torneio estava previsto para acontecer em dezembro, no Japão. Mas o país que foi sede das últimas Olimpíadas informou à Fifa que não teria condições de organizar a competição por causa da pandemia. O Rio de Janeiro chegou a mostrar interesse em receber a competição, mas Abu Dhabi, nos Emirados Árabes, foi escolhido como novo anfitrião do torneio. Os jogos devem acontecer em fevereiro.
Os sete participantes do torneio já estão definidos: além do Palmeiras, tem o Monterrey (Concacaf), o Chelsea (campeão europeu), Al-Hilal (campeão da Ásia), Al Ahly (vencedor da Champions africana), Al-Jazira (representante do país-sede) e o Auckland City (indicado pela Oceania). O atual campeão é o Bayern de Munique, da Alemanha.
E será de responsabilidade do Chelsea de manter o domínio europeu no Mundial. Afinal, a Europa faturou 13 títulos nas últimas 14 edições do Mundial — o Corinthians foi a exceção, tendo conquista o último título da América do Sul em 2012.
As equipes do Velho Continente somam 34 títulos no total contra 26 dos sul-americanos, entre a extinta Copa Intercontinental e torneio realizado pela Fifa. O marco da virada foi a criação da Lei Bosman, em 1995 — antes dele, o placar era de 20 a 13 para a América do Sul.
O Chelsea é, sem dúvidas, a equipe a ser batida neste Mundial. Ainda mais por ter sido vice-campeã quando conquistou a Liga dos Campeões pela primeira vez, em 2012, e ser o único clube inglês considerado grande que ainda não venceu o torneio na história.
Mas diferentemente dos anos anteriores, esse Mundial terá contornos diferentes. Por ser normalmente disputado em dezembro, o calendário fazia com que os sul-americanos, com quase 80 jogos disputados na temporada, chegassem exaustos fisicamente para a disputa do torneio. Enquanto os Europeus, na metade das suas respectivas temporadas, estivessem melhores.
Já nesta edição, os sul-americanos irão para o Mundial após um período de férias e, consequentemente, melhores fisicamente. Já os Europeus estarão desgastado após o ‘boxing day’ de dezembro e com as datas coincidindo com as oitavas de final da Liga dos Campeões. Ou seja, a tendência é que o torneio tenha atenções dividias e não seja prioridade para os ingleses.
É claro, muita coisa pode acontecer até fevereiro, mas o Chelsea desponta como uma das melhores equipes da Eurpa nesta temporada. Não apenas pelos craques que tem no elenco, como os volantes N’Golo Kanté Jorginho, ou o atacante Romelu Lukaku, mas por ser uma equipe forte coletivamente. Tanto que é líder do Campeonato Inglês com 29 pontos com apenas uma derrota em 12 jogos.
Dos 23 jogadores inscritos pelo Chelsea no Mundial de 2012, apenas um segue no clube: o lateral-direito Cesar Azpilicueta. Já o técnico alemão Tomas Tuchel, é candidato e favorito ao prêmio de melhor técnico da temporada na premiação Bola de Ouro, da revista “France Football”.
