Com maior posse de bola no primeiro tempo o São Paulo foi mais incisivo, porém não conseguiu furar o bloqueio do tricolor baiano, que finalizou mais que o adversário. Os lances ficaram lá e cá, mas as melhores chances foram do Bahia, porém terminou zero a zero e os times foram para o intervalo lamentando o resultado.
Os gols foram marcados no segundo tempo. Aos 6 minutos, Douglas tentou tirar, se atrapalhou com Juninho e viu Luciano fazer de bicicleta o primeiro gol do time paulista. O segundo gol do São Paulo saiu aos 20 da etapa completar, com Arboleda que sobiu mais que todo mundo e cabeceou no canto direito de Douglas para ampliar o placar do jogo.
O terceiro gol saiu novamente dos pés de Luciano, desta vez chutando de primeira, de perna esquerda e marcando um belo gol, aos 28 minutos. O Bahia reagiu logo em seguida, com um chute rasteiro de Clayson também de primeira, após contra-ataque rápido com Nino Paraíba que cruzou e o atacante completou, aos 35.
Foi tarde demais para buscar uma reação e o tricolor da boa terra, assistiu o São Paulo conquistar mais um triunfo e sair da Fonte Nova com os três pontos. O Bahia segue com 28 pontos e temporariamente, na 12ª posição.
